
Program Director Biographies
Kathryn Ellis
Program Director, Family Nurse Practitioner Program
Kathryn K. Ellis, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, ANP-BC, is an assistant professor within the Department of Nursing. Ellis has been the program director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program since 2007.
Ellis is board certified as both a family and adult nurse practitioner and maintains a practice along with her teaching responsibilities at Georgetown University. In 2010, she collaborated with Arlington Street People Assistance Network (A-SPAN) to open a nurse-managed clinic in Arlington, Virginia. She provides primary health care services to homeless residents of the winter shelter.
Ellis served as president of the Northern Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners. She was awarded the Georgetown University Medical Center Faculty Achievement Award in 2011 for her contributions in developing and implementing Georgetown’s first-ever online degree program, Nursing@Georgetown.
Kimberly Trout
Program Director, Nurse Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program
Kimberly K. Trout, PhD, CNM, is an associate professor in the Department of Nursing and program director of the Nurse Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program.
Trout earned her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania after practicing for many years as a nurse midwife in both urban and rural settings. Trout’s special research interests include nutrition during prenatal care, especially for vulnerable populations at higher risk for obesity and diabetes. She is also interested in global health issues and recently witnessed first-hand the impact of the cholera epidemic in Hinche, Haiti while working on behalf of Midwives for Haiti.
Karen Kesten
Program Director, Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Program
Karen Kesten, DNP, MSN, CCRN, PCCN, CCNS, is an assistant professor within the Department of Nursing. Kesten is the program director of the Adult Gerontology Acute care Nurse Practitioner/Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Program.
She has a master’s degree in cardiovascular nursing from The Catholic University of America and a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from the University of Maryland. Kesten has completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at the University of Maryland and sits on the board of directors of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation. She is certified as an adult critical care registered nurse, an adult progressive care registered nurse, and an adult acute care clinical nurse specialist.
John Rosselli
Interim Program Director, Nurse Educator Program
John Rosselli, MS, RN, CFNP, ACRN, CNE, is an instructor within the Department of Nursing. Rosselli is the interim program director of the Nurse Educator Program and the interim director of Continuing Nursing Education.
Rosselli has a master’s degree in nursing from Georgetown University, where he studied in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Currently, Rosselli is a PhD student in the online nursing program at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He holds a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and is a certified nurse educator through the National League for Nursing.
