DNP Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) 

The Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) specialization of Nursing@Georgetown’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares registered nurses who currently hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to lead developments in care for women across the life span, throughout the health system. WHNPs with doctoral training have the leadership experience as well as the practical expertise to manage teams providing primary and specialized care for women, including reproductive care, preventative care, and prenatal and postpartum care.  

The WHNP specialization develops versatile practitioners with a future-focused vision of women’s health management. They see opportunities for positive growth across the health system and implement these changes, beginning with the teams they lead. Through course work in ethics, epidemiology, biostatistics, and economics, students develop a well-rounded understanding of the field and the nurse practitioner’s role in moving modern health care forward. 

This specialization is ideal for nurses who want to be involved at the highest level of women’s health care but are not interested in attending births.

By integrating advanced science with principles of ethics and leadership, the WHNP curriculum will position you to practice at the highest level of women’s health care. 

Offered on a full-time or part-time basis, the WHNP specialization includes: 

As a graduate of Nursing@Georgetown’s WHNP specialization of the DNP program, you will be prepared to pursue board certification through the National Certification Corporation (NCC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

You must also meet state requirements (including criminal history, mental or physical disability, and disciplinary action) to obtain licensure.
